This wealth data science school was the fifth in a series of annual research incubators organised by the University of Bremen and other partners to advance research through data-driven modeling approaches. The 2024 school focused on the genesis of wealth, particularly the mechanisms for the production, reproduction, and redistribution of wealth.

The ACEIR hub at the University of Cape Town hosted the African component of the school. A hybrid campus connected Bremen and Cape Town for lectures on the measurement of wealth and related inequalities, while offline sessions provided a platform for project work and exchange. The ACEIR South Africa node contributed a lecture series that were informed by the researchers’ interest in using multiple correspondence analysis to better understand the socio-economic dimensions of racial inequality in South Africa.
