Aarifah Razak is a PhD student in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Master of Economics degree from the University of Pretoria, a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Economics from the University of Witwatersrand, and a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2022 she participated in the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences. Her current research is in the areas of inequality and social mobility with an emphasis on determining the drivers of and trends in intergenerational mobility in South Africa. She is also interested in studying gender gaps, the returns to public versus private education, as well as the impact of neighbourhoods on economic outcomes.
