Dr Emma Whitelaw

Dr Emma Whitelaw is a post-doctoral researcher with the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU), based at the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her PhD thesis was on the subject of inequalities in post-school education in South Africa, especially related to student funding, access, and success. Her work extends to poverty and inequality dynamics, with special interest in the nexus of education, labour markets, and the distribution of wealth. Emma also teaches courses on complex survey and panel data analysis through DataFirst. She also holds an MSc in Economics and Public Policy from the University of York and an MA in African Languages from the UCT.
