Dr Phyllis Mumia Machio
Phyllis Mumia Machio is a Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Development Studies, University of Nairobi. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nairobi. She has won several research grants from organisations such as the African Economic Research Consortium and Partnership for Economic Policy. She was a 2019 fellow of Cornell University’s Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces project and is currently a fellow of the Food Systems Research Network for Africa, a flagship project of the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Food Systems that is hosted by the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Her research mainly focuses on the areas of maternal and child health, labour market, gender in agriculture, and development economics generally. Phyllis has published in leading journals such as World Development and the Journal of Development Studies.
