Dr Mawuenyega Makafui Butu

Mawuenyega Makafui Butu is an ARUA Early Career Research Fellow based at the ACEIR South Africa node at the Southern Labour and Development Research Unit, University of Cape Town. She obtained her PhD in Development Economics from the University of Ghana, where her thesis focused on child poverty in Ghana. She is a beneficiary of the UNU-WIDER Scholarship and also participated in the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship-Advanced Scholars Program at Carleton University in Canada during her PhD journey. Mawuenyega has postdoctoral experience at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER). Her research focuses on poverty alleviation, income and gender inequality, food security, and climate change. Mawuenyega is currently working on the impact of climate change on household welfare in Ghana.
